Reconnect Northamptonshire – Attachment Aware training to create ‘Reconnect Schools Leaders’
Event runs over TWO days (Friday and Monday)
All of our schools have pupils who have attachment difficulties. The evidence categorically indicates that these children and young people significantly underachieve unless they receive support and intervention. Children can experience attachment difficulties as a consequence of trauma which may be caused by: parental absence or unavailability, parental depression, domestic abuse, children affected by migration, alcoholism in the family or removal from the birth home as is the case for looked after children. Some children with autism can also experience attachment difficulties.
As part of our Teaching School Partnership (www.TSP.education), and collaboration with Virtual Schools, our teams of Specialist Leaders have written training materials to enable schools to become attachment aware. This programme covers the latest evidence from research and will will enable nursery, primary and secondary schools to develop practices and create a learning environment that will meet the needs of pupils with attachment difficulties.
We will train a key member of staff from your school so that they are able to train all of your staff in becoming attachment aware. The training materials and access to further support is also provided at no cost to you.
This is an ideal opportunity for a key member of your staff to join a developing practice community who can keep your staff informed of the needs of our most vulnerable pupils.
We recommend that the people you choose to send on this training have the following qualities:
• Someone who believes that all children can achieve given the right conditions to so do
• A genuine commitment to the active inclusion of others
• The confidence to speak in front of others guided by a comprehensive training pack
• The capacity to effect change, where needed, in your school
• An ability and willingness to support the development of others
• Someone who can reflect on their practice and that of others
• Someone who listens without judgement
This person may be a Head Teacher, another senior leader, an inclusion leader, a SENDCo, A family support worker, a teacher or support staff member with expertise in Inclusion.
This project is being funded by Virtual Schools and will not incur any costs to you for the training or the materials.
